Untitled

This sculpture is inspired by one of the ancient stories of the Weeping Buddha - a warrior who unknowingly kills his own son in battle. Renouncing all violence to dedicate his life to compassion, it is said that rubbing his back absorbs the pain and sorrows of humankind.

This piece reimagines that traditional pose, inviting viewers to form their own personal conclusions about the narrative.

Hand-built over a structural cardboard and wood frame, layered with paper-mâché, and finished with a custom paper. The heavily textured surface is painted, rubbed back with earth and sand, and repeatedly repainted to build a deeply layered, aged patina reminiscent of ancient terracotta ceramics.
