Bearing Witness
Inspired by my love for horses and their rich symbolism throughout history, Bearing Witness is a standing horse sculpture with slightly elongated legs and a gently outstretched neck, conveying a calm, watchful presence. It embodies quiet attentiveness, observing a moment with subtle curiosity.
The form was constructed from wire, wood, and cardboard, with the surface refined using papier-mâché and paper clay. It was then painted, polished, and finished with dark wax to accentuate textured markings and suggest the subtle wear of time. Partially legible carved words trace the surface, hinting at hidden histories.
